Twitter employee who slept on the floor fired after Musk’s latest cuts

Twitter’s latest layoffs include an executive who last year tweeted a photo of herself sleeping on an office floor while spending long hours on a project.

Esther Crawford, CEO of Twitter Payments, retweeted a photo of herself sleeping in a sleeping bag in the office last year with the caption, “When your team is working around the clock to meet deadlines, sometimes you’re #SleepWhereYouWork.” Platformer’s Zöe Schiffer confirmed Crawford’s firing in a tweet on Sunday.

“The worst thing you can get from seeing me go all in on Twitter 2.0 is that my optimism or hard work was a mistake. Those who scoff and scoff are necessarily on the sidelines, and not in the arena. I’m very proud of the team that managed to work through so much noise and chaos,” Crawford tweeted on Sunday.

The New York Times reported on Sunday that Twitter laid off 200 employees on Saturday night, about 10 percent of the company’s workforce. This comes months after Twitter CEO Elon Musk laid off about half of Twitter’s workforce in November, saying it was the latest round of layoffs.

Musk also announced in an internal memo Monday that remaining Twitter employees will receive “highly significant” performance-based stock awards, The Verge reported. This was also his first communication to employees since the weekend layoffs, the report said.
